SOUTHWEST DISTRICT ATHLETIC
BOARD
WINTER NEWSLETTER 2008-2009
With the start of the 2008-2009 Winter Sports Season nearly upon us, the members of the Southwest District Athletic Board have posted all of the regulations, brackets, and important information pertinent to the tournaments on the board’s web site: www.swdab.org. This Winter Newsletter will inform you of the changes that will take place for the upcoming tournaments.
Gymnastics
For the past several years the tournament has been hosted by the staff
at Centerville High School. The board appreciates the dedication and
loyalty shown by the personnel at Centerville in conducting this tournament.
Effective this year, the tournament will be conducted at Lakota East High
School, and the tournament manager will be Mr. Jim Rouff, Athletic Director, at
Lakota East High School.
Wrestling
Sites for all sectional and district tournaments will be identical to
those of 2008. One significant change this year will be the format for all
Division I sectionals which will be conducted in a one-day format. Division II
and III will remain the same as last year. Admission pricing for the
tournaments will be as follows: One-Day Tournament - $10.00 for the first
session and $5.00 for the second session. An all-session pass can be purchased
for $12.00. Two-Day Tournament - admission will be $5.00 per each session, and
an all-session pass will be $12.00.
District Tournament sites remain the same as last year, and the Southwest will again be hosting teams from the Northwest in Division III and Southeast in Division II.
Swimming and Diving
The biggest change in this area will be the addition of the second
division in Boy’s Swimming and Diving. Sectional and District sites remain the
same as last year. Both divisions of boy’s swimming will compete on the same
day (Friday, Feb 13, 2009) at the same site, and the same will be true of girl’s
swimming. They will compete on Saturday, February 14, 2009. Diving competition
for both girls and boys will be on separate days: Boys - Wednesday, February
11, 2009, and Girls – Thursday, February 12, 2009.
Boy’s and Girl’s
Basketball
The following sectional site changes have been implemented.
Girls:
West Carrollton High School
Division I site goes to Trotwood High School
Mason High School Division II site goes to Withrow High School
Western Brown High School Division III site goes to Mason High School
Boys:
Anderson High School Division
II site goes to Fairfield High School
Sycamore High School Division III site goes to Western Brown High School
All other sectional sites remain the same as last year with the exception of the finals in the Lebanon High School Division II Boy’s Sectional Tournament, which will be played at the University of Dayton Arena. District Championships will begin on March 6-7, 2009 (Girls), and conclude with the Boy’s Division I finals on Saturday, March 14, 2009. District Championship sites will remain the same as last year.
Bowling
At the writing of this newsletter, a survey is being conducted to monitor support for an Open Draw in Bowling. If supported by enough coaches and passed by the board, it will allow teams to place themselves in one of two sites based on their seed. If implemented, it will allow the school to place itself only in the geographic area of Cincinnati or Dayton. Site changes for this year are as follows: Cincinnati - Colerain Bowl and Mason Bowl; Dayton - Beaver-Vu Bowl and Southwest Bowl.
Another change for this year will be the number of qualifiers (teams and Individuals) to the District Tournament. Fourteen (14) teams and fourteen (14) individuals will come from Cincinnati while ten (10) teams and ten (10) individuals will come from Dayton. Another change is that three games of regular bowling and six Baker games will constitute tournament play.
