WRESTLING SECTIONAL/DISTRICT
2008 WRESTLING TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS - Take what information is needed from these rules for your District Meets.
1. Managers are to seed the same number of qualifiers in each weight class and one alternate by vote of the coaches. Number to be seeded shall be the same in each weight class for the entire tournament. Wrestlebacks for the Sectional and District Meets (ALL DIVISIONS) will begin after the first round.
2. Once a boy is nominated for seeding by his coach, he then cannot be withdrawn from the seed by his coach. (Board Action)
3. Certified weight listings are to be sent to the OHSAA in Columbus. Failure to provide manager with a certified listing will make the boys ineligible to compete. A ONE (1) POUND WEIGHT ALLOWANCE IS ALL THAT WILL BE ALLOWED FOR EACH TOURNAMENT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE FEDERATION RULE BOOK.
4. Weigh-Ins: A wrestler is officially entered when he weighs in for competition and must meet weight at ALL LEVELS OF TOURNAMENT COMPETITION.
5. Certification by Board motion: 1) A doctor or certified trainer must be present to check all athletes. 2) Tournament managers shall accept a state certified form signed by a physician relating to skin infection. 3) A registered wrestling official shall be employed to conduct weigh-ins. Board adopted April 12, 1997.
6. Officials fees: Officials will be paid $245.00 to work the sectional tournament and $315.00 to work the district tournament. Mileage will be paid when the official travels in excess of fifty (50) miles from his place of residence. Mileage will be $1.00 per mile at mile fifty-one (51). The tournament manager will determine mileage by using MapQuest. Officials will be assigned by the District Board.
7. SECTIONALS: Admission for Sectional sessions will be $5.00 per person for the preliminaries and the finals. Any tournament conducted for one day, the admission will be $5.00 per person. An all-session Sectional ticket can be purchased for $12.00.
DISTRICT: Admission to the District Tournament will be $6.00 per person per session. An all-session District ticket can be purchased for $20.00. The OHSAA Southwest District Board will not honor pass-outs.
8. Each manager will be responsible for admittance of contestants, managers, cheerleaders and cheerleader advisors for all Sectional and District tournaments
Athletic Directors, Superintendents and Principals will use their yearly passes that have been mailed to them. Tournament managers will see that these passes should be used by school Administrators.
9. The only persons permitted in the wrestling area will be the wrestler and two (2) coaches. Violations will result in the removal of the coach from the wrestling area. A maximum of six (6) cheerleaders, in uniform, will be permitted to the District Tournaments, when member schools are participating and they will be permitted only in the area designated by the Tournament Manager. 10. All weigh-ins shall be conducted by weight class (coaches recommendation 4-28-01).
11. All tournaments are to score all six places at the sectional level (coaches recommendation 4-28-01).
12. MANAGERS AND COACHES will adhere to the State regulations. Rules and regulations may be obtained from the OHSAA web site.
13. Qualifiers from Sectionals to District Tournaments:
Division II First four (4) in each weight class from Goshen, Eaton, and Tipp City; and first four (4) in each weight class from Southeast
Division III First four (4) in each weight class from Covington, Blanchester, and Clinton-Massie; and first four (4) in each weight class from the Northwest
The District Wrestling Tournament will be held on Friday, February 22, 2008 and Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the following sites:
Division I Fairfield H.S.
Division II Goshen H.S.
Division III Kettering Fairmont
14. Qualifiers to the State Meet will be four (4) in Division I, four (4) in Division II, and four (4) in Division III per weight class.
15. All Sectional Managers are to send their results of their Tournaments to the District Tournament Manager by Sunday, February 17, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.
16. District Tournament Managers must submit a time schedule for their respective meet.
17. By District Board Action. A new Weather Cancellation Policy was adopted:
The Southwest District Board has established the following policy for cancellation or postponement of tournaments.
Schools participating in wrestling tournaments and reside in a county that experiences a Level Two (2) or Level Three (3) weather emergency, that SITE (tournament) will be postponed. Tournament managers must contact the District Board and make every effort to personally contact each schools coach, athletic director, or principal.
Schools are also encouraged to make use of the Board website (www.swdab.org) for updated information regarding postponements and cancellations.
The tournament manager will contact the Board Secretary, who will work with the managers to contact the "News Media".
Prior to the start of tournaments, the managers will be instructed to make available to the Board, a contingency plan for weather emergencies.
18. Financial reports for all Wrestling Tournaments are due to Bob Huelsman, 307 Steven Street, Covington, OH 45318, one week after the conclusion of the Tournament. PLEASE BE PROMPT.
